Parents, I would love to have volunteers in the classroom. As we study various regions around the world, if you have any expertise or experience in any given area and would like to share, please let me know via email.
Mrs. Robertson
Hi, Howdy, and hello. Since you are reading this blog, you must be currently enrolled in my World Geography class(either that or you are extremely bored). I look forward to getting to know you this year and learning as much as I can from you as I hope you will from me. So here goes:
I grew up in Brevard, North Carolina. It is a small town nestled in the mountains of Western North Carolina. I actually lived in Pisgah Forest which is part of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I grew up loving the outdoors and found myself very interested in rock climbing and backpacking. In fact I have hiked over 500 miles on the Appalachian Trail. I also played Volleyball, Basketball, and Softball. I guess you could say, I love to be active whether it is playing sports or enjoying the outdoors.
My love for history developed along with my love of traveling. I was fortunate enough growing up to visit Europe several times during my summer vacations. I traveled to England, Scotland, Germany, Austria, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Denmark, and many other European nations. Most of their history dates back 1000’s of years. I ended out here in Utah while attending BYU. I also completed a study-a-broad course in Israel, where I lived for 6 months. Many of the experiences I have had traveling will make their way into our studies this next year. I graduated from BYU with a major in History and minors in Anthropology and Geography. My love for traveling helped me search out educational opportunities so that I could travel to Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Virginia over the past two summers, so be prepared to see lots of pictures. :-) Most recently, I traveled to North Carolina, Virginia and the Washington DC area.
And now about my family. I am married to a wonderful husband, Brent, and we have four wonderful children. Kara and Tyler are from Brent’s previous marriage and Jenna is my fifteen-year old who keeps me very busy. Hannah is my youngest at thirteen years of age. I also have a beautiful white husky/malamute who takes me into the mountains on a regular basis. Together we make an interesting and entertaining bunch.
Lastly, as I teach you this next year, I am sure to offend some of you. If I do, please speak to me about it so that we can work it out. I hate it when miscommunication creates a problem which makes it difficult for you to learn and me to teach. Remember, teachers are human, too. (I know, scary thought).
I look forward to teaching you and hope to have a wonderful year. By the way, all of you students out there who don’t think you like history, hopefully I will change your mind.
