Welcome to Online Learning!
MAKE UP WORK--IN CASE YOU DID NOT GET IT DONE BY THE DUE DATE
Students,
Please remember, I will assign work on Monday. You will have all week (including Saturday and Sunday) to finish that work. The assignments will then be locked on Sunday night at 11:59 pm. If I had to change the due date each time you do not get assignments done, then it changes how everything syncs to skyward.
If you would like to make up work, you will need to get it off my website: https://mrsrobertsonwillowcreek.weebly.com/online-learning.html
You may then email me your completed work.
Thank you,
Mrs. Robertson

EXAMPLE OF CURRENT EVENT ASSIGNMENT:
1. When? (Date of news event)
March 18, 2020
2. Where did the event occur? (Include city, country, and continent)
San Francisco, California, United States of America, North America and Italy, Asia
3. What happened (summarize using 4-5 complete sentence)
Because of COVID-19 or coronavirus the U.S. government has told the public to social distance themselves. If they don't listen we could end up like Italy or San Francisco where the government forces you to stay home unless it's super necessary for you to leave. Also schools and shelters are offering food for children to get meals because sometimes that's the only way that you can get food.
4. Who was involved (names and positions)
President Donald Trump, All of the States Governors, All World Leaders
5. Why did this event occur? (get help from parents if necessary)
Because the coronavirus is taking over everything and so the economy is crashing which is making things way worse. Corona started from a guy eating a bat.
6. How does this event affect the local community?
Since everyone is freaking out and the economy has crashed everything is hectic. No ones body knows how to fight it and it's spreading like a wildfire. There may be a vaccine soon though.
1. When? (Date of news event)
March 18, 2020
2. Where did the event occur? (Include city, country, and continent)
The skull was found trapped in 99 million year old amber in Myanmar, Asia
3. What happened (summarize using 4-5 complete sentence)
Scientist have found a hummingbird preserved in amber. The hummingbird found is smaller than the bee hummingbird which is the smallest living bird today. They also said that the new hummingbird was a predator even with its small size. The birds skull was found perfectly preserved in 99 million year old amber.
4. Who was involved (names and positions)
Jingmai O'Connor, the scientist who found the hummingbird in the amber and study co -author
5. Why did this event occur? (get help from parents if necessary)
Because many animals and insects have been trapped in amber before but it's still very surprising.
6. How does this event affect the local community?
This affects the science community in many ways because this is a crazy new species. But it doesn't really affect the local community.

Go to onlinelibrary.uen.org Click on “Culture Grams” under “General Reference Collection” in the left column. Once in Culture Grams, go to “World Edition.” On the map, select the continent; then select the country you were assigned. If you do not finish in class you will need to finish at home. To access the website at home you will need the username: online and password: school.

Another option with journals is to simply type them up and email them if you would rather or if you haven't been writing your journals.
Day 2 of Online Learning: March 19th
After a day like we had yesterday I needed a hike to clear my mind this morning. It was eerily foggy up the canyon. And then as I came off of the mountain and looked across the valley, I could see where all of you guys are, nestled down in your homes learning as we go.
Today is much the same. You will watch CNN10 and write about TWO events. Please copy and paste the questions in the text box so that you can remember to answer them all. If you are not sure, look at Day 1 for an example. Next week, we will add some additional learning activities. I hope you all are doing well and adapting to this new style of learning. Who knows, maybe I'll do a video here soon.
Day 3 of Online Learning: March 20th
GET OUTSIDE! Today my scenery changed. I wish I could take you all on this hike. It's about 3.6 miles round trip. It's about 1.5 miles up hill and then 1.5 down and about .6 flat. It's beautiful and I love the changing seasons. It seems like Utah has had every season this week alone. Monday was sunny--I even got sunburned. Tuesday was a little cooler with clouds and a breeze. Wednesday we had an Earthquake (which has nothing to do with weather, but definitely strange). Thursday was rainy and green. And today I woke up to white. Crazy March.
So today I sent home a new letter. You have until Sunday to finish up your three Current Event Assignments. There should be TWO current events per day.
Next week we will mix it up with some new content. Please continue to check back here as well as canvas. I can't write explanations on canvas.

Hi guys! Mrs. Pace is awesome and came up with a video to help you navigate canvas. PLEASE TURN ON YOUR NOTIFICATIONS. For the first two assignments, if you received "incomplete", I wrote a reason why and what you could do to improve. FEEDBACK is really important.
March 23-27 WEEK 2: Online Learning
Hello all, What a Week! I have decided to change things up a bit and get back to learning. After reviewing your exit tickets, hopefully you will be happier this week. I will try to make things as easy as possible. Rather than do a day to day assignment, I will put the entire week's worth online. You have until Sunday, March 29 to submit all of the work. Please take note that I may make adjustments as the week continues. We might actually take our online test at the end of the week, but I haven't uploaded it yet. Hang in there! We've got this!

Hello to our third week of online learning. I have tried to choose assignments that are 15-20 minutes in length or at least no more than 75-80 minutes for the entire week. I have noticed that many of you are not reading the comments I write on your submitted assignments. If you have a question on your grade, this is where you will find answers. If you have not turned on the notices in canvas, please do so. Also, many of you have re-submitted assignments to improve your grade by 1 point. I cannot keep regrading assignments. I have 264 students. If I write "re-submit", then you may re-do the assignment and resubmit. The best way to ensure the best grade is to read ALL INSTRUCTIONS. :) Please email me if you have any questions.
Week 3 of online learning is going to help us finish our unit on Asia. You will only have ONE activity followed by a TEST for this week. This movie that you are going to watch is China Dynasties of Power (a Time Life Lost Civilizations series). It is 51 minutes.(I like to speed up the play speed a little). You may break this up over the course of several days if you want, but there are questions with it. The questions will be graded for accuracy so please answer them in full. This assignment can be submitted in several ways:
a. You can download the document here and hand write the answers, take pictures/scan and upload it into canvas.
b. You can copy and paste the questions and type the answers and upload it into canvas.
c. You can complete it in google docs and upload it into canvas.
End result: Upload and submit assignment in canvas in any form. If you have problems, you can email me.
Towards the end of the week, I will have an online Test that you will complete on canvas.
BREAK DOWN: WHAT YOU WILL TURN IN
1. Watch movie and turn in questions on canvas

Extra Credit-Write your name in Mayan
This assignment is just a fun one. Usually, we take the time to learn to write our names in Mayan as they were one of the Native groups with a language that has been deciphered. Years ago when I first started doing this activity, someone (another teacher) told me that females begin their name with the "Na" symbol that represents female. You will notice on these pictures, most of them were female names. These students did a great job creatively thinking of a way to display their names.
Read the instructions.
Mayan's spelled their names phonetically, so you may not find the exact letter for one in your name. For instance, there is no "R", but there are sounds like"Wa", "We", "Wi","Wo" and "Wu". Just try your best. Have fun with it and see what ART you can come up with.

Instructions for writing your name in Mayan
The Mayan alphabet uses symbols phonetically (or how they sound). You will choose your symbols based on how you would say your name phonetically. You may use the alphabet given to you or the translator at home, http://www.paleoaliens.com/event/mayan_glyphs/index.html. You only need to do your first name, but should have a minimum of four characters. Your extra credit will be based on neatness, color, and creativity.
